About Me

My name is Rhesa Rubin.

I am an attorney licensed in AZ and CA who provides the following services: Mediation (family and civil), Parenting Coordination, and Divorce Coaching. I have assisted families with resolving their separation, divorce and co-parenting issues over the last 30+ years, and have provided civil mediation services as well.

I am admitted to practice law in Arizona and California and before the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California.

I started working in family law in 1989 when I was the Principal/Research Attorney for five Judicial Officers at Santa Clara County Family Court, CA. I assisted by preparing draft opinions and doing research on the issues raised in court briefs.

In the following eleven years while working as a California family law attorney, I resolved the majority of my cases through settlement conferences with opposing counsel and my clients. My litigation practice included addressing issues such as: prenuptial agreements, paternity, child custody, real estate, child and spousal support, domestic violence, marital property division, business interests and international child custody. During these years, I saw firsthand the havoc families experienced when Judges decided the fate of their family unit and the years of stressful encounters following the Final Judgement of Divorce. I came to the conclusion that Mediation offered a kinder and gentler way to resolve separation/divorce issues and observed that this process helped to set the stage for parties to have successful future interactions, which is especially important if there are children from their marriage.

In addition to practicing law in CA, I volunteered as a Settlement Conference Judge and as a Judge Pro Tempore for the Default Calendar for Santa Clara County Family Court.

When I left my CA law partnership to focus on providing Mediation Services, I took the required courses and trainings in CA and NC. I became a Certified Mediator and Parenting Coordinator after moving to NC in 2010. I continued to actively participate in and attend courses, seminars and meetings relating to Mediation and Parenting Coordination.

While residing in NC, I mediated family issues at the Dispute Settlement Center of Orange County and at Wake County District Court (Family Court). In addition, I prepared Power of Attorney documents for UNC-CH Hospital & Legal Aid of NC’s Cancer Project and for Immigration Clinics hosted by NC Justice Center.

Since moving to AZ in 2020, I have become a member of the AZ State Bar and look forward to helping AZ families with their divorce/civil mediation matters and co-parenting needs.

It would be my pleasure to help you and your significant other negotiate an agreement that reflects what both of you want going forward. I believe you will find the process to be more satisfying and cost effective than litigation proceedings and that YOUR agreement will truly reflect a compromise between the two of you.
